August 2023 Reading Wrap Up

August 2023 Reading Wrap Up

My birthday month was pretty successful with lots of 5 stars! I LOVED Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett. The Unmaking of June Farrow by Adrienne Young was life changing. Reckless by Elsie Silver was such a fun cowboy romance. And Manacled by SenLinYu – a masterpiece! It was a great month.

Morbidly Yours by Ivy Fairbanks

This was cute and unique! I absolutely loved it until about 80% and then Lark started to rub me the wrong way. But Callum was so cute, I loved the setting, and the story was really fun. Totally recommend! You can read my full review here.

Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett

I loved this book! I really enjoyed the first, but the second was great!! This series is so unique and quirky, academic and fun. I love Wendell and Emily separately but also as a couple. The romance in these books is not the focus, but they have the best banter and a very mature/understanding relationship (no spice though).

It was a bit of a cozy mystery with new characters, faeries, and a more personal quest. I’d definitely recommend this series if you love faeries, fun characters, and academic FMCs. You can read my full review here.

The Unmaking of June Farrow by Adrienne Young

Adrienne Young is a storytelling goddess. I didn’t read the description before starting, and I’m glad I went in blind! I loved the magical realism and Adrienne’s stories are always so atmospheric. When I wasn’t reading it, it was all I could think about. SO many mysteries to solve and pieces to put together, and sweet relationships scattered throughout. I absolutely loved it.

Reckless by Elsie Silver

Do I love Theo more than Cade??? Based on the synopsis, I would normally hate this book. Secret babies are not for me! But if you love men that are down bad for their woman, this is for you!

The Warlord Wants Forever by Kresley ColE

I’d heard great things about Kresley Cole so I thought I’d start Immortals After Dark with this prequel novella. It was alright! Entertaining, but I don’t think I’ll continue the series.

A Fragile Enchantment by Allison Saft

I’d describe this as Bridgerton with magic, and I really enjoyed it. I love forbidden love (0.5/5🌢) and found family. Though I’d consider this more “haters to lovers” instead of “enemies to lovers”. The MMC was so grumpy – obsessed!!

Totally recommend if you’re in the mood for a fantastical period drama.

Forget me Not by Julie Soto

This book was SUPER hyped for me, and sadly I didn’t love it! I found the amount of wedding planning content to be too much. Their relationship was also not great except for the flashbacks. Ama was stressful and Elliot was an ass, a hot ass, but still. I bumped up the rating because I would recommend it to the right person.

3.5/5

The Witch Collector by Charissa Weaks

I reread The Witch Collector! This is a great start to the series. Definitely more fantasy with a romance than fantasy romance, but I’d still give it 1.5🌢 I always love an enemies to lovers romance! And the MMC was broody and powerful. Love it!

5/5

The American Roommate Experiment by Elena Armas

This wasn’t my fav! I did like the MMC Lucas, but I could NOT wrap my head around her living in the apartment. It was such a lame excuse to create forced proximity that I couldn’t get on board.

Manacled by SenLinYu

It took me a year to finish this πŸ˜‚ HOWEVER it’s not because I didn’t love it, it’s because I was listening to the audio on Spotify and the episodes stop early lol. So here to say – you can actually download this to your kindle from AO3 🀣

It’s heartbreaking and so good and worth a read πŸ‘ This is god tier Dramione. Just follow it up with Draco Malfoy and the Mortifying Ordeal of Being in Love to heal your soul.

The Bridge Kingdom by Danielle Jensen

I had this book on my TBR for years, and on my self for a while too. The Bridge Kingdom seems to be a go-to rec for fantasy romance, and while I did enjoy it, I really missed the fantasy elements in this one. The romance was alright, but don’t expect a lot of spice. I’ve heard the second is better, so I’ll continue the series!
