May 2023 Reading Wrap Up

May 2023 Reading Wrap Up

May was pretty great! I didn’t read a TON of books, but most of my ratings were pretty high. Two of these were ARCs and I managed to reread Fourth Wing on audio! Have you read any of these? Let me know what you think!

Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros

Wow, talk about a hyped book! Overall I really loved this one. It was a very easy read with high stakes and a swoon-worthy romance. However, because I loved it so much, I also had a lot of critiques. I read this one before the huge boom, so my only expectations were dragons, a hot MMC, and adult writing. It ended up being WAY more YA than I had hoped. I also did a reread with the audio! Desire or Defense by Leah Brunner

This was a sweet, clean romance. Great banter, but not spicy. I’d totally recommend this one if you’re interested in trying hockey romance. Mitch gets suspended from the NHL and has to teach a group of young hockey players, one being Andie’s little brother. You can read my full review here.

Ruins of Sea and Souls by Lisette Marshall

This is book 3 in the Fae Isle series. I did enjoy this one. The main characters, Emelin and Creon, are entertaining and dramatic. Those these books can drag a little at times. Still great fantasy romance with a bit more worldbuildng.

King's Bride by Beck MIchaels

King’s Bride is Beck Michael’s adult fantasy debut. It’s a loose Beauty and the Beast retelling with the enemies to lovers tropeΒ  and lots of spice. The main character is forced to marry the God of Death. It was entertaining and had lots of swoony quotes, but the pacing really fell off for me towards the end. I love her Guardians of the Maiden series though!

Practice Makes Perfect by Sarah Adams

I LOVED this book! I didn’t realize it was the second in a series, but everything made sense to me. The main characters had great chemistry and fun personalities. This book had tension and was a little steamy, but closed door. Totally recommend! Read my review here.

Broody Devil by Melissa Ivers

This is book 3 in the Nashville Devils Series. I skipped the first two. This one was entertaining with an accidental marriage turned marriage of convenience. Rhett and Lucy were fun!

Crying in HMart by Michelle Zauner

I don’t read a lot of non-fiction because it’s either sad or boring. And this one was sad! It was a heart-wrenching story about the author’s rocky relationship with her mother, including her mom being diagnosed and ultimately dying from cancer.Β  It explored her grief of losing a parent, but also what that meant for her identity as a Korean-American.

The Witch Collector by Charissa Weaks

This is the first book in the Witch Walker series. It was definitely more fantasy with a romance than Fantasy Romance, but I really enjoyed it! It had a enemies to lovers trope between a broody MMC and a strong + powerful FMC.

I had three favorites this month! Fourth Wing, Practice Makes Perfect, and The Witch Collector were all great. I can’t wait to continue these series. Happy reading!
