Hey! I'm Christina, aka Chrissykreads
I love reading Fantasy and Romance, and if I’m not working, I’m glued to my Kindle.
I grew up loving to read, and was even on a competitive reading team for all 3 years of middle school. I may not have had a ton of friends, but boy did I have some AR points! A few of my favorite books were The City of Ember and Once Upon a Marigold (yep, both Fantasy).
My love of Fantasy started early with movies like The Last Unicorn, The Dark Crystal, and Labyrinth being staples in my home. And then I found The Lord of the Rings at age 10 and my Legolas-loving-self has never looked back!
I rarely read for fun in high school or college, but I did get caught up in the Twilight craze and I don’t regret it! I still remember staying up super late reading and rereading. Little did I know there was a whole world of fantasy romance I had no idea about!
At the end of 2020, I was scrolling through Reddit looking for fun board game recs and somehow stumbled upon Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson. The mass market paperback (yikes) for Mistborn was crazy cheap online, so I went for it. And wow, my life was changed!
I had read Harry Potter (many books for the first time), part of The Sword of Shannara, and The Fellowship of the Ring that year, but Mistborn was for ME. I ate it up.
It felt like a small spark started and I knew that I could read a book in a week instead of over the course of many months. I ended up reading 11 books in 2020 and I was so proud!
In January 2021 a friend from college randomly added me to a Facebook group for a book podcast. I looked around and saw rave reviews for The Black Witch by Laurie Forest. I decided to start reading the free pages on Google Books because I didn’t have a library card. I read the free pages in 2 days, ordered the book, and finished it in a day.
If Mistborn was the spark, The Black Witch was the kerosene. I had finally found the Fantasy Romance I didn’t know I was looking for. I started buying books, built a book shelf, and got one of my prized possessions – a library card.
With lockdown still happening and my mental health already trash, I ended up reading 111 books in 2021. Whoops. But I was so proud! hahaha
2022 was an even better year of reading thanks to my Paperwhite and new-found love of hockey romance!
Along the way I found spicy books (thank you, Book Gods), and decided to start this blog because sometimes you just want a spicy read, and you have to dig through Goodreads reviews to find out what you’re getting in to. Or you see reviews on Bookstagram but everyone has their own spicy rating and you may be reading a 1 that ends up being closed door. I’m reading the books anyways, so I’ll do the work for you! I hope this blog will help you find your next book! Thanks for reading!
